Parenting Advice: Anorexia

Parents,

Check out this pro-skinny website, it’s unbelievable.  http://www.skinnygossip.com/

It’s audience is mainly young girls of course.

parenting advice anorexia kate upton1 150x150 Parenting Advice: AnorexiaAccording to the site, model Kate Upton has huge thighs, big fat floppy boobs, and it tags her as thunder thighs and piggie.  Yeah, I can see what they mean, she’s almost the size of my right thigh … cheesh!

I don’t blame the media for making young girls sick as anorexia has been around long before the media took hold.  It’s a mental illness.  But, a huge majority of teenage girls aren’t anorexic yet they still suffer from low self-esteem over a dreaded cellulite spotting.

Your  opinion of their body doesn’t mean much to them, it’s all about their peers.  But what you can do is encourage them to develop as many hobbies, interests, activities and friends as possible.  Those healthy pursuits are what will help them to put body image in its rightful place.

Your comments and emails are always welcome,

This is such an offensive website. Taglines for Kate Upton – fat, fatties, gokkun, kate upton, porn, redneck, thick, vulgar. Horrible…

It’s tough competition for parents trying to raise their daughters’ self-esteem. The key is to get to the girls when they’re really young, to encourage and enable as many healthy pursuits as possible so that by the time they’re teens they’re not as vulnerable to outside influence. Well, that’s the hope anyway :)
