Foster Dog Diary

Foster Dog Diary

by LisaBunnage on January 20, 2012

I’m sharing my experiences with dog rescues so if you are only interesting in parenting stuff, then don’t keep reading.  But wait!  Animals are great for kids, they teach them about compassion, responsibility and it’s been proven that children raised with pets have higher self-esteem … I’m just saying …

Here is my video on Pets & Kids:

I just started fostering 2 weeks ago and love it.  I have 2 dogs and 1 bird of my own, all rescues of course, and got hooked on videos from Eldad75 which inspired me to foster.  I contacted Julia at Little Paws Rescue Society and said I was ready to start fostering.

My first foster dog was Caesar and we fell in love with him instantly.  Here he is on the first night with us falling asleep in my arms.  Had him for just 13 days before he was adopted.  That was tough but Julia said the wrench is easier if you get a new foster right away.  She saw sucker on my forehead eh?!  ha ha.  But, she was right, it’s much easier letting go of one when you get another one right away … soooooooo …

January 2012 049 150x150 Foster Dog DiaryHere is foster dog #2, tiny little “Sparky”.  He’s a 4 pound poodle with the most horrid looking mouth.  All his teeth are crooked and rotten, he’s skin and bones and he’s completely blind.  Sparky will be visiting the vet for his neuter and dental next week and you won’t even recognize him, he’ll be all healthy, strong and confident.  Such a little doll (heart).

He goes around mapping out the place and gets around amazingly well.  He sleeps in a crate at night then I put him on the kitchen mat in the morning so he knows exactly where he is when he starts his day.  He’s completely housetrained and such a sweet, trusting little boy.  He won’t be ready for adoption for at least a couple of weeks while he’s recovering, but I’ll post updates on his progress.
