WHAT IS A PARENTING COACH?

A Parenting Coach is someone with knowledge and experience with children from the perspective of the parent; not the teacher, not the doctor, not the psychologist.

Parenting is a very unique role. It can’t be compared to anything else in life as it’s so all-consuming. Everything your kids say and do are a reflection of you. You take parenting very personally and it’s my role to help you navigate through parenting with as much clarity, confidence and joy as possible.

HOW DOES COACHING WORK?

You email (Lisa@BratBusters.com) or call (604-944-7479) me and we’ll set up a session or sessions and go from there.  Some parents just want 1 session, others prefer the monthly plan.  Coaching is done via phone and/or Skype.  Progress reports and feedback are done via email.

Habits are formed over 3 weeks which is why I offer the Monthly Plan.  This give us lots of time to work together to not only teach you what changes to make, but allow me to check up on your progress and support and encourage you where needed.

*   Same Day Coaching: If you are in a crisis situation (teenage meltdown, etc.) I will try to get you a session that same day although it may have to be a very late phone or Skype session.

FAQ’s:

Q:  Do you need background information before our session?

A:  None at all, although most new clients like to chat a bit (phone or email) before seeing me for the first time.

Q:  What types of problems do parents come to you with?

A:  It’s really a mixed bag but the majority of my clients have toddlers or teens.  I also have clients who have no kids and are considering having a family and would like to know what to expect.  I have also had clients who have adult children who won’t leave home.  So … I deal with all sorts of parenting issues.

Q:  Do you coach children also, or just parents?

A:  A lot of my clients hire me to talk to their teenagers.  What your teen and I discuss is confidential, unless I fear for his/her safety.  They tell me a lot more than you would expect, as they know it’s private and that I won’t freak out when they talk to me about sex, drugs, pregnancy, etc.

Q:  What should I do to prepare for a coaching session with you?

A:  Just be prepared to open up and be honest.  Please don’t save your biggest concern till we’re nearing the end of the session like some new clients do.  I know it’s because they’ve been judging me trying to figure out if they want to tell me everything.  Please watch my videos, read my column (The Sunday Province), watch me on Global News, etc., etc.  You are much better off if you start our session trusting me completely.  I don’t judge or criticize, I’m just here to support you and your children.
